The Salvation Army, Worthing offers a range of tailored groups to suit our community. We have a passion for putting our faith into action by meeting the needs of the locals practically and spiritually.
Our Community Caf offers a relaxing and friendly environment for all ages and is the hub of our centre! Our toddler group runs each week during term time and is filled with childish laughter, stimulating activities and safe play. The Thursday Club offers adults with learning difficulties a safe and friendly environment to dance, sing, play games and meet up with friends each week. We run a Family Links Nurturing Programme which aims to help adults understand and manage feelings and behaviour and become more positive and nurturing in their relationships with children and each other. It encourages an approach to relationships that gives children and adults an emotionally healthy start for their lives and learning. Last year we ran a Lunch & Activity club during the school holidays for children that received free school meals. The children had a cookery lesson and then made a healthy lunch each day. Whilst lunch was being cooked they participated in different physical activities.
The supported Child Contact Centre at the Salvation Army Worthing aims to provide a facility for children to spend time with parents when there have been family breakdowns. It is a friendly, neutral and child centred environment that provides toys and games that reflect the diverse needs of children of all ages. Accredited by the National Association of Child Contact Centres our centres main focus is the safety and protection of the children.
One of our main aims is to target Social Isolation in Worthing and we offer multiple groups and services to tackle this issue. These include the Community Choir, Knit & Knitter, and the CAMEO club which are all great ways to meet new people. Our Welcome Break offers respite service to carers whilst providing a safe and friendly environment for those being cared for whilst the Befriending scheme will go and visit those who cannot get out the house. Care & Share is a new group aimed at the carers of our current or past Welcome Break clients. Its aim is to ensure that carers have a strong community around them. They go on outings and have movie/quiz mornings regularly.
Our Homelessness Initiative has three main streams. Firstly, we run, in conjunction with Worthing Churches Homeless Project, a weekly night shelter each Friday from Jan March. Secondly, rough sleepers can come into our community caf at any time and get a hot meal, sandwich, hot drink or cake for free. Finally, we offer rough sleepers monetary vouchers to use in our charity shops should they need new clothes or furniture when they get housed.
With our aim to impact more lives, there are always opportunities for people to help. We offer a variety of volunteering prospects and would love you to work with us to support our mission. If you would like to find out more about our volunteering openings please contact Reception on 01903 234447
