Wonder Fools is an award-winning Scottish theatre charity making bold, joyful work with communities. We create original shows and participatory projects with young people, using theatre to build confidence, connection and access to culture—especially for those facing the biggest barriers.

Story

Our Story

We’re taking on the Kiltwalk to raise funds for Positive Stories for Negative Times — Wonder Fools’ programme bringing free, high-quality theatre and creative opportunities to young people.

Since 2020, Positive Stories for Negative Times has reached more than 12,000 young people and over 1,000 teachers and group leaders through bold new plays, creative resources and participatory opportunities. It exists to make sure more young people can access culture, creativity and connection, wherever they are..

For many young people, taking part in the arts can feel out of reach because of cost, distance, lack of local opportunities or access barriers. Positive Stories for Negative Times helps change that by bringing theatre directly into schools, youth groups and communities, and by making participation free.

The impact of the programme has been clear. In our latest season, 91% of young people said taking part gave them a sense of pride and achievement, 90% said they felt confident to take part in drama afterwards, and 91% of teachers and group leaders said the programme increased young people’s access to cultural opportunities.

One young person summed it up best:

“I’m so much more confident. Life’s so much more than being shy!”

Your support will help Wonder Fools commission new work, create free resources, support artists and remove barriers so that more young people can feel seen, heard and inspired through theatre.

Every donation, big or small, will make a real difference. Thank you for supporting our Kiltwalk challenge and helping us continue Positive Stories for Negative Times.

Why are we fundraising?

This year, we need to raise funds to make the programme happen again. Your donation helps us bring new writing to young people where they are — opening doors to culture, creative confidence, and a stronger sense of voice.

What your donation supports:

1) Free plays delivered in schools and youth groups

2) Commissioning brilliant writers to create new work

3) The practical essentials that make participation possible, including access support, travel, food, workshops and resources

Thank you

Thank you so much for donating to our Kiltwalk fundraiser for Wonder Fools’ Positive Stories for Negative Times. Your support helps us bring free, high-quality theatre into schools and youth groups — improving access to culture, building confidence, and supporting self-expression.
