Help fund a Nanosonic Trophon Unit for QCH.
Help fund a Nanosonic Trophon Unit for QCH.
After hearing the compelling presentations made by the medical leaders at the Women In Philanthropy Voting Meeting, a Women In Philanthropy member has committed to match up to $10,000 for any additional donations members would like to make. The donations and match will go towards the second place project as voted on by our Women In Philanthropy members: Trophon Units for the Diagnostic Imaging Department at Queensway Carleton Hospital.
3 Trophon Units are desperately needed at a cost of $12,125 each.
Nanosonic Trophon Units are the latest and best technology for cleaning and disinfecting the ultrasound probes used for detecting abnormalities, and in some cases cancers, in the uterus, ovaries and other pelvic organs. Trophon is an automated system that uses chemical cartridges containing highly-effective bactericidal, fungicidal and virudical disinfection agents in a closed unit, minimizing staff exposure to chemicals, and reducing the risk of patient cross contamination.
How will patients benefit?
Ultrasound is a powerful tool for the early detection of gynecological diseases and QCH performs on average 2,500 procedures a year. However, if ultrasound probes are not properly cleaned, they have the potential to transmit infections, including human papillomavirus (HPV) or c-difficile. With the ever increasing challenges in the fight against the spread of healthcare acquired infections this disinfection technology is setting a new benchmark in protecting patients.
Advancing care at QCH
Replacing three trophon units is essential for the safe, effective care of approximately 10 women who need ultrasound diagnosis every day at QCH. The new units will also safeguard staff and our environment from the dangerous hazards and toxic side effects of traditional disinfection methods.
