Indonesia is one of the biggest contributors to ocean plastic due to poor waste management infrastructure. At CLEAR Community we work with local communitites to set up recycling centres, known as waste banks, to remove waste from rivers and local environments so that it is prevented from reaching the ocean. From January to July this year CLEAR recycled just under 7000kg of waste, including nearly 2000kg of plastic.
We couldn't do this work without closely collaborating with local communities and recruiting villagers to become Waste Warriors. Our Waste Warriors are given the skills, knowledge and equipment to maintain the waste banks so that they can remain effective long after CLEAR's initial mobilisation, training and support.
This year we are engaging with more villages to establish new waste banks and prevent even more plastic reaching the ocean. To do this we need your help. We're asking you to join the Workout Challenge. To complete the challenge all you need to do is aim to complete 30 minutes of exercise each day throughout the month of October. The exercise you choose is up to you, but whatever you do get your friends, family, and acquaintances to sponsor your challenge and raise money for CLEAR Community.
