Story
The Critical Care team at Wrexham Maelor Hospital are aiming to raise an huge £50,000 to develop a new sensory garden for patients and their families.
The architecturally designed garden will soon provide a soothing and welcome respite from the more formal surroundings of the hospital. Staff will also be able to sit in the specially designed garden during their breaks.
The physical and psychological impact of being a critical care patient is highly challenging. Providing an outdoor sanctuary for patients will be incredible, the benefits of which cannot be measured. The team have already fundraised an incredible amount, but are continuing to fundraise on their days off by taking on huge challenges.
At the moment, the team are walking virtually around the world over 24,000 miles!
Many times people who are coming to the end of their lives have asked to go outside for one last time, and at present there isnt anywhere suitable for them to go apart from the entrance to the hospital, but once this garden will be completed it will be a different story and obviously there will be privacy." - Jayne Galnate, Critical Care Sister.
The plans for the garden have given the team a huge boost, and they can't wait to see what it looks like when completed.
