Story
Early Detection Saves Lives
Take part in the Wirral Coastal Walk this June for Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation and join the fight to make late diagnosis of lung cancer a thing of the past.
Since our founding in 1990 by Professor Ray Donnelly, Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation has been determined to support everyone affected by lung cancer – from diagnosis, through treatment, living with the disease and end of life care. We raise awareness, prevent future generations from increasing their risk of getting it and challenge the misconceptions of lung cancer. We do all this so those diagnosed can live well with lung cancer for as long as possible.
Our research into early detection has laid the groundwork for lung cancer screening and we are proud to support the NHS of its rollout of a national lung cancer screening programme. Screening has caught 77% of cancers at stages one and two, when it can be treated with curative intent.
There is no doubt screening can help revolutionise the earlier detection of lung cancer, but it is far from the end of the story.
Our ongoing research into the development of new early diagnostic techniques, including blood tests and sputum swabs remains vital and at our core, as does our work in symptom awareness, challenging disease misconception and empowering self-advocacy to ensure everyone is diagnosed at the earliest opportunity.
Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is doing everything it can to support those living with lung cancer throughout the cost-of-living crisis, as well as ensuring everyone is diagnosed as soon as possible and has access to the best treatment for them.
