Story
On a sunny Saturday in late spring, a group of medical students from the University of Liverpool successfully completed the Wirral 100km cycle for Claire House and Kind Liverpool. But with only a week's training and exam stress looming, they had a tough day ahead of them.
Setting off bright and early, lycra clad and SPF equipped, we journeyed from Birkenhead to Ellesmere Port while calling into the Claire House HQ for a lovely catch-up with the team! Following this we took the scenic route down to Chester, where we settled for lunch in the blazing heat. Halfway done, we powered through on our excursion north where we cruised along the greenery-surrounded boardwalks of Burton Marsh, eventually reaching the little seaside town of West Kirby. With some tired legs, we cruised along the promenade of New Brighton and Leasowe to finish on a taxing total of 116km! Despite a healthy dose of cramps, chain malfunctions and navigatory lapses, the sunburnt group of students made it home in time for supper!
All proceedings raised will go to Claire House and Kind Liverpool, please see below for links to their websites.
Claire House help terminally ill children through improvement in quality of life by providing specialist nursing and end of life care, along with emotional support of their families during the hardest times of their lives.
Kind Liverpool work to give equal opportunity to local children and families in the face of poverty and neglect, doing so through educational programmes, food hampers and providing life-changing experiences.
Both charities have truly been a pleasure for us to work with this year, and we've been fortunate enough to raise almost £12,000 for them!
With our final charity event of the academic year, we would feel truly indebted for any donations made - thank you for your kindness :)
