Story
Many of us look forward to winter; it brings Christmas and opportunities to spend time with family and friends. But it can be an extremely challenging time for some. 29% of the UK are concerned that they will have to go without gas or electricity for a period of time this winter. Others will go without hot food in order to pay for the energy to heat their homes.
335 excess deaths occur during winter in County Durham. 22% are related to the cold and 10% to fuel poverty.
More than 1 in 4 households in Hartlepool are living in poverty
35% of households in Sunderland do not have a car to get around
County Durham Community Foundation supports groups who make a real difference to the quality of people's lives during this challenging season.
So far this year, we have already awarded over £15,000 to groups and individuals in need from this campaign, with thanks to Four Seasons Healthcare who have kindly donated £2,500 to support this campaign.
However we cannot do this without your support.
Your generosity will help vulnerable people in the North East during THIS winter. Do you receive a winter fuel allowance that you could donate to those who may need it more? Could your business or school host a fundraising event?
