Story

Why Your Support Matters:

In the bitter cold of winter, the streets become a challenging and often dangerous place for those without a roof over their heads. However, within the walls of the Gatehouse Community Centre and café we provide a beacon of hope. Every day we serve nourishing meals and provide other essential support within a welcoming space where our guests can find solace and a sense of belonging.

The heart-warming Impact:

Your generosity can be the difference between hope and despair for those in need.

With your donations, we can:

• Continue to serve nutritious meals: your support will help us serve a variety of nourishing food from fruit, sandwiches and cake to pizza, jacket potatoes and soup to those who often go hungry during the cold winter months.

• Provide warmth and shelter: with your contributions we can offer a safe and warm environment within the community centre, ensuring that everyone has a place to escape the biting cold.

• Offer essential supplies: from blankets and winter clothing to personal hygiene items, your donations will help us provide vital supplies to those who need them most.

• Create a Supportive Community: Your kindness fosters a sense of belonging and community among our guests, reminding them that they are not alone on their journey to finding stability and a better life.

How You Can Help:

Donate: every pound counts! Your generous contributions will make a direct positive impact on the lives of those experiencing homelessness this winter. If you can, don't forget to add Gift Aid to make your donation go further.

Spread the Word: share our Winter Appeal with your friends, family, and colleagues. Together we can reach our goal and make an even greater impact.

Volunteer: your time and skills can make a world of difference. Join us in our community centre directly helping individuals in need.

Your donations to the Gatehouse Winter Appeal will ensure that no one faces the cold nights alone. Together, we can reach our target of £10,000 and make this winter a season of hope and transformation for those who are less fortunate.

How does the Gatehouse support Oxford’s homeless and vulnerably housed community?

We have been providing support to this community since 1988, offering a wide range of free services that are accessible to all. We now also actively seek to provide support for individuals in danger of falling into homelessness, those on low or no income, suffering from food or fuel poverty, or simply looking for companionship.

Ongoing impacts of the cost of living crisis have caused massive increases both in demand for our services and the costs incurred by us in providing them. Despite financial pressures we have been able to widen the range of support that we provide in recent years by adding services such as a Counsellor, a shower service and a Lived Experience Advisory Forum to our core community centre and café services and our Casework one-to-one individual support.

What will your donation fund?

• A £10 donation will provide a meal each day for one guest for a whole week

• Make that £20 and we can add a shower, clothes and more ...

Check our website for more details about our charity and opportunities to help in other ways from fundraising activities to volunteering, food or clothes donations and much more.
