APPEAL UPDATE!
Thanks to your generosity we have raised an amazing 130% of our target! Including gift aid, that's a total of more than £20,000!!
This means we can carry out the essential repairs – and continue to maintain this landmark of the Commons for the foreseeable future.
A heartfelt thank you for your support of the Windmill and Wimbledon and Putney Commons!
The sight of the Windmill is a highlight of many people's visits to the Commons and is a famous feature in the community. It has stood at the heart of the Commons for over 200 years. Wimbledon and Putney Commons Conservators (WPCC), the charity that manages the Commons, also maintains this iconic landmark.
As a Grade II* listed building, it needs ongoing specialist maintenance to prevent loss of heritage or damage to the Windmill. In July 2025, the Windmill was struck by lightning, damaging the sails. WPCC is urgently seeking funds to carry out repairs to the sails.
The cost of repairing the sail that was struck by lightning is nearly £2,000, whilst the remaining repairs will cost more than £11,000. The reason for this is due to the Listed status and needing to hire a crane to reach the fantail.
Your donation will get the Wimbledon Windmill's sails turning again.
In Spring 2025, WPCC and the Wimbledon Windmill Museum had begun turning the sails for the enjoyment of visitors. Sadly, this activity is now on hold until the sail and fantail are repaired.
As a charity, we rely on external funding and donations to care for the Windmill and its surrounding landscape. Can you make a donation today to help repair the Windmill?

All donations will be used to repair the Windmill, and help fund it's long term maintenance.
If we are lucky enough to raise more than our target, any additional donations will be used towards future maintenance of the Windmill.
