We believe in the power of outdoor adventure to change lives for the better
Since 2016, the Wild Night Out community has raised over £6,000 for the Youth Adventure Trust - an incredible sum which has made the outdoors much more accessible for vulnerable youngsters.
At the Youth Adventure Trust we believe that spending time outdoors and doing adventurous activities can have a massive impact on somebody's life. The positive effects of challenging yourself, learning to trust others and work as part of a team are immeasurable. We use outdoor adventure to help vulnerable 11-16 year olds build resilience, develop confidence and learn skills to help them lead positive lives in the future.
We work with some extremely vulnerable young people, who even in normal circumstances face difficulties, challenges and stresses, and may live in potentially harmful or disadvantaged environments. These young people will be some of those most at risk from the fallout of the current Covid-19 crisis; the additional emotional, practical and financial pressures on their families means they need our support more than ever.
Our main Youth Adventure Programme spans three school years and consists of outdoor adventure based residential camps and activity days. In response to Covid-19, we had to adapt quickly to make sure we could continue to support our young people - we couldn't let them down. Throughout the lockdowns we were able to provide weekly online one to one mentoring, run a programme of virtual activities, facilitate group sessions, provide a bridge between the young person and their school, and, as soon as it was safe to do so, to get them back outside.
This year we know that taking our young people outside and challenging them through adventure is the best way to look after their mental well being, continue to build their resilience and reduce the negative effects of living through a global pandemic.
By taking part in the Wild Night Out and making a donation to the Youth Adventure Trust, you will be helping some of the most vulnerable 11 - 16 year olds in our society to get outdoors, have adventures and achieve more than they ever thought they would be able to achieve. Thank you!
