Wildlife rangers brace for an increased poaching as communities across Africa struggle with Covid
Wildlife rangers see no relief in sight, as the Covid-19 pandemic continues to impact Africas communities and wildlife due to the elimination of essential funding for wildlife protection that comes from tourism. Now, poaching is on the rise. The threat is expected to increase further with ranger capacity remaining low and international trade routes opening.
The pressures on Africas protected areas threatens to compromise decades of development and conservation success across the Continent.
The Wildlife Ranger Challenge aims to tackle this ongoing crisis for a second consecutive year. Funds raised will cover operating costs, including salaries and equipment, for at least 5,000 rangers, enabling them to provide for their families, protect communities, and defend endangered wildlife, including elephants, pangolins, rhinos, and lions in some of the continents most vulnerable areas. A suggested £25 donation will support a one-day patrol in a protected area. £50 supports a ranger with a weather resistant uniform. £250 supports a rangers salary for one month and £1000 dollars supports an anti-poaching canine unit for a year.
You can also directly support some of the worlds leading organisations working to champion wildlife rangers across the African continent by selecting your conservation area on the campaign page.
Give today, and the Scheinberg Relief Fund will match every dollar donated, amplifying your impact.
