Story
Sunflowers Children's Action Group is a small, volunteer run charity, The charity's aim is to create special, inclusive events and activities for children who suffer from life-limiting and/or life-threatening conditions. The 'sunflowers' as they are known, may endure harsh and painful treatments, are regularly isolated from school, friends and family.
These children may suffer every day of their lives and will do for the rest of their lives and sadly, some face the prospect of much shortened lives. Since setting the Charity up, we have supported several families who now must face a difficult future without their child. The aim is to raise awareness of this small Charity and to invite other participants to register and raise money for the Charity.
Events that Sunflowers Children's Action Group have held over the past 3 years include: magical in-person (and zoom-based) huge Christmas parties, exclusive Cinema Club events, special photo-shoots for families to capture precious memories, exercise clubs and friendship groups. Our aim is to raise the funds to be able to offer more activities on a larger scale, support making friendships, reduce isolation and to create wonderful memories.
As we are all volunteers, our overheads are very low, allowing us to create special days and experiences for our children. We want you to know how honoured we are that so many have offered their generous time, support and efforts for our cause.
Our Patron, Bhasker Patel has joined up with Emmerdale friends Chris Chittell and Liam Fox, and former Emmerdale actor Anthony Quinlan to raise awareness for our Charity. You can join them on the walk and help them raise funds. We will provide a coach from Grimsby which will call at Scunthorpe - places are limited. Those outside of these areas must make their own way there.
About the walk:
Starting from the impressive Ribblehead Viaduct this route takes you to the highest point in Yorkshire Whernside. On a clear day there are great views out to the Howgills, the Lake District and Morecambe Bay.
The ascent of Whernside involves a long steady climb and a lovely high-level ridge. The descent is steeper with a final flat section through the fields to finish underneath the spectacular Ribblehead viaduct.
The walk is intended to be at a slow pace, with the group staying together, for safety, at all times.

However, please bear in mind you will need to carry extra water for them, and they should not attempt such a walk if this irregular for them. Your dogs are your responsibility at all times.
