Story
This year's Vätternrundan cyclists will be helping us reach children who are living without the support of parents and guardians through our Child Headed Households Programme. In communities where there are high levels of poverty, HIV/AIDS, prostitution and disease, many children are left without a parent or guardian to care and provide for them. These children are the most vulnerable within their communities; isolated, desperate and without protection, they are likely to suffer neglect, abuse and exploitation.
£50 can provide a child headed household in Malawi with a bicycle, giving them an immediate source of income.
£16 can provide agriculture training for a child headed household in Malawi.
£75 can provide a child headed household in Malawi with a vaccinated female goat, whose offspring can be sold to pay school feeds, improve their home and cover any medical costs.
£10 can establish a food garden for a child headed household in Uganda.
£60 can identify and train a local community volunteer in Uganda to care for, protect and empower child headed households in their community.
£150 can provide a child headed household in Uganda with two vaccinated pigs. Piglet sales provide a critical economic support for the basic needs, education and medical costs of the child and their siblings.
