This year, Library Media Specialists submitted an epic grant to expand titles in their digital library. This initiation supports district goals to encourage students to explore new genres they would not usually consider, to make reading more accessible, and to offer quick access from anywhere at any time. This grants nearly doubled the available titles. Monetary donations from our community make initiatives like this possible. Executive Director, Lori Villarreal claims, "Everyone involved - donors, advocates, administrators, educators - this success belongs to all of us."
Year-after-year the Foundation funds ideas that continue to encourage our educators to explore new ways to engage students. Villarreal believes, "Wylie ISD has clearly transitioned from traditional classroom learning to online in-home classrooms more smoothly than many of our 'like' districts. There is no doubt in my mind that this is a direct result of our culture where educators are encouraged to dream big and do big for the sake of their students."
Wylie ISD Education Foundation's primary purpose is to enhance education in the classroom. We do so by funding Grants for Teachers and supporting Scholarships For Seniors. Last year we awarded over $90,000 to 46 teachers who had a measurable idea that would improve learning for their students. This year wed like to fund all of the ideas.
Together, our work will have meaningful and broad impact on the educators and students of Wylie ISD.
