Story

September 13 sees the fifth anniversary of the re-opening of Jesmond Library by the newly formed Friends, following its closure by the City Council. Since then the Library has become an indispensable and much loved part of Jesmond Life, used by hundreds of people each week. They might be borrowing books, attending classes or events or simply popping in for a sit down out of the rain to read the newspapers or let their children play with our toys, but they all value the service the Library provides for the neighbourhood.

To celebrate this milestone the Friends are planning to install a new, specially commissioned central desk feature to replace the old collection of tables. It will be on wheels and thus easy to move to the side for larger evening events and have plenty of essential storage. And or course ample room for volunteers to welcome all our visitors.

The new welcome desk will not only be useful but also an attractive feature of the Library, echoing its original 1963 appearance and fitting its iconic Grade 2 listed status.

Please contribute to this Appeal to keep Jesmond Library a great place to come, up to date and fit for purpose, for the benefit of all our users.
