Story

Warmer Winter Appeal 2024: Combating Fuel Poverty in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin

As the temperatures drop and the nights grow longer, thousands of families across Shropshire, Telford, and Wrekin are facing the harsh reality of fuel poverty. Without enough resources to heat their homes, vulnerable households are at serious risk this winter. Our Warmer Winter Appeal 2024 is dedicated to tackling this critical issue and bringing warmth, safety, and hope to those in need.

The Crisis of Fuel Poverty

Fuel poverty affects more than just comfort—it can have devastating consequences on health and well-being, particularly for the elderly, young children, and those with chronic illnesses. According to the latest statistics, over 10,000 households in our region are struggling to keep warm due to rising energy costs and inadequate insulation.

"I don’t know how I’ll make it through the winter. Last year, I had to choose between buying food and heating my home."

– Margaret, 76, from Shrewsbury

Margaret’s story is one we hear far too often. No one should be forced to make these impossible choices. But with your support, we can provide essential assistance to households like Margaret’s this winter.

How Your Gift Makes a Difference

By donating to our Warmer Winter Appeal 2024, you enable us to take swift action to help those in need. Your generosity will:

*Provide emergency fuel grants to struggling families, ensuring they can heat their homes during the coldest months.

*Offer energy-saving advice and home improvements, such as draft-proofing and insulation, to help households stay warm long-term.

*Support local foodbanks and community organisations that are lifelines for those who are unable to afford both food and fuel.

Every donation, no matter the size, directly impacts the lives of people in your community.

How You Can Help

Your gift could mean the difference between a cold, unsafe home and a warm, secure one. You can help people who are making heat or eat choices in our County. Whether you’re able to give £10 or £100, every contribution goes towards making sure that no one is left out in the cold this winter.

A Call to Action: Let’s Bring Warmth and Hope Together

Fuel poverty is a complex issue, but together, we can help solve it. Last year, through your support, we helped over 200 households across Shropshire, Telford, and Wrekin, facing a cold, harsh winter.

This year, with energy prices continuing to rise, the need is even greater. With your help, we aim to reach even more households this year —providing them not just with warmth, but with the knowledge that their community cares.

"I don’t know what I would have done without the grant. You saved my life last winter."

– David, a veteran from Telford

We believe no one should suffer in silence. Let’s come together to combat fuel poverty and ensure that this winter is warmer for everyone. Donate today and help us keep the most vulnerable members of our community safe and warm. Thank you.
