Story
On the 15th of August Ed will make a 15 day, 268mile journey down the spine of England along the Pennine Way the oldest and arguably most iconic of Englands national trails. Walk The Spine is not only a feat of endurance but a testament to Eds will in overcoming his disability as he aims to complete the walk in just two weeks a week faster than an able bodied person.
Ed is passionate about the impact that the outdoors has had on his recovery and continues to challenge himself to both inspire others, redefine perceptions of what is possible following a life changing injury and support the charities close to his to heart.
Through the challenge Ed is keen to encourage others to venture outside for all the physical and psychological benefits it presents. The current pandemic has shone a bright light on the importance of looking after ones mental and physical health and Walk The Spine offers up a prime opportunity to get outdoors as a community in the name of charity and wellbeing.
Walking along the spine of England is particularly poignant given Eds journey and therefore fitting that one of his chosen charities is Wings For Life - a research foundation dedicated to finding a cure for spinal cord injuries for which Ed is an ambassador. 100% of every donation Wings For Life receives goes directly to world class research and helps provide hope to the thousands of people affected by spinal cord injuries around the globe.
Ed will also be raising money for his own charity the M2M Foundation for which this will be their inaugural since receiving official charitable status earlier this year. Due to Just Giving not currently offering a charity split option all proceeds will go to M2M and then split equally at the end of the fundraising period.
