Story
At World Ocean School, we believe the world needs people of all backgrounds and ages to courageously confront problems, opportunities, and challenges, embrace teamwork, and embody responsibility. Since its founding in 2002, World Ocean School has worked with over 22,000 students in programs as short as three hours to as long as nine weeks, primarily aboard our flagship Roseway and now also aboard our newest fleet addition, Denis Sullivan. Walk the Plank 2023 is a fundraising event supporting World Ocean School's mission of providing transformative educational opportunities to students of all backgrounds at sea.
There is a growing need for access to robust and high-quality opportunities that cater to all types of learners. This has always been true but has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. World Ocean School fills this need by engaging students in academic and social-emotional skill-building through the experience of sailing a historic tall ship in week-long day trips and multi-day residential programs. Students take on the role of deckhands for the duration of the program, guided by our community values of teamwork, communication, trust, and self-worth.
I learned how to be vulnerable on the Roseway. It taught me how to open up with people and have a sense of trust.
Your donation to Walk the Plank 2023 will allow us to offer our high-impact, transformative programs to Boston youth at reduced or no expense to students and their families. As our students continue to be impacted by the pandemic, World Ocean School programs are more important than ever and we would be thrilled to have your support to ensure our lasting impact in this community.
