Story
Walking away for wings is to raise awareness of domestic and family abuse. We want to remember those who gained their angel wings and encourage others to gain their butterfly wings of freedom. We will walk every day from 8th February till 8th March 2021.
Many people who suffer abuse cannot leave, they do not have the support, they do not have the strength. During lockdown this has become worse and we decided to do a walk from 8th February till International Women's Day on 8th March 2021 to raise awareness of domestic and family abuse. We want to encourage others to Walk Away when they can and gain their freedom wings.
The project was inspired after two angels gained their wings to heaven and since then Salford has seen more angels gain their wings. We want to remember them when we START THE WALK AWAY FOR WINGS campaign.
Walking is a great way to clear the mind and give you time to think, this is what our survivors need. We want survivors to know we will walk by their side when till they are ready to walk alone.
We want everyone to join in even those who cannot walk far. So choose your limit. 100 steps a day to 10,000 per day. Just get walking and raising awareness of domestic and family abuse.
