Story
Chromosome 6 Project
This amazing project started with the mother of a child with a chromosome 6 aberration who came to our out-patient clinic and told us about an active international Chromosome 6 Facebook group. Inspired and encouraged by this mother and in collaboration with the Facebook group, we started the Chromosome 6 Project: driven by parents, for parents, a research project on chromosome 6 deletions and duplications.
The goal of the Chromosome 6 Project is to provide tailored information on rare chromosome aberrations to parents and professionals via an open access interactive webpage. This tailored information is important to ensure the best possible guidance and treatment for children with chromosome 6 disorders.
For 12,000 (= $13,500) we can employ a student for 1 year to analyse data received from parents and write papers and information material for some selected chromosome 6 aberrations.
For 120,000 (= $135,000) we can employ a bioinformatician and programmer to develop an interactive, self-analysing system that can automatically group information for different chromosome 6 aberrations, analyse the results and give these results in a meaningful summary directly on the website. This allows us to automatically analyse and give information on ALL chromosome 6 aberrations.
The Chromosome 6 Project also serves as a blueprint for studying other rare chromosomal aberrations with small numbers of patients world-wide.
