WALKING 1000KM FOR ART REFUGE

Campaign by Art Refuge

Update! October 4-12, more than 60 people of all ages & several canine friends, collectively walked 1000 kilometres in 7 locations to raise vital funds for our arts-based psychosocial support for people seeking sanctuary, in the UK & internationally.

Closes 31/10/2025

Established in 2006, Art Refuge offers vital art and art therapy support to people displaced by conflict, persecution, poverty and climate change, in the UK and internationally. We deliver longterm programmes in England and northern France, alongside training, education, exhibitions and research.

Story

At a time of heightened polarisation around migration issues, Art Refuge artists, art therapists and trustees are stepping out with friends, family and colleagues to collectively walk 1000 kilometres between October 4 & 12 2025 in the different locations related to our work. The intention is to connect, reflect, bring some joy and raise vital funds for our ongoing arts-based psychosocial support for people seeking sanctuary and those who work with them, both in the UK and internationally. Routes walked, drawings, photos, films and reflections - alongside quotes from people seeking asylum about the journeys they have walked -  will be shared on our social media and website.

Money raised from this campaign will help us remain agile and light of foot in responding to when and where we are needed most. This includes our long term work in northern France and southern England, online support for a Sudanese staff team in Yida refugee camp, South Sudan, and other calls for our frontline training and skills-sharing as and when these arise.
