Story
Sir Norman Lamb, the former Member of Parliament for North Norfolk, has launched a challenge alongside Norfolk Community Foundation for people to get together with friends, colleagues or family throughout the month of August to collectively walk 500 miles to raise funds for his Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund.
Sir Norman, a well-known campaigner for mental wellbeing, established the Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund last year with his wife, Mary, following his decision to stand down after serving 18 years as the Member of Parliament for North Norfolk. The Fund, hosted by Norfolk Community Foundation, aims to support community organisations in Norfolk working in mental health, learning disability and autism, and focused on children, teenagers and young adults.
This challenge is an opportunity not only to get active and healthy, but also to raise vital funds for community-based organisations doing vital work with children and young people in our county. The need for help is greater than ever now in the aftermath of the Covid-19 crisis - Sir Norman Lamb
In taking part in the challenge, you can choose to walk, run, cycle, swim or complete the miles in whichever way is best for you, as well as setting a goal of fewer miles by yourself if you don't want to do it as part of a group. The challenge acknowledges the positive impact of physical exercise on our mental health, but is also an opportunity to celebrate what Norfolk can achieve when it comes together as well as exploring parts of the county that people may not know so well.
Those wishing to take part in the challenge can set up their own JustGiving page to directly raise funds, linking it to this campaign page, or alternatively you can direct anyone wanting to support your fundraising efforts to donate directly on this page, removing the need to have to set anything up yourself.
