Help Women Acting In Today's Society (WAITS) to raise £10,000 towards opening a refuge for women fleeing domestic abuse. By signing up to the Walking a Mile in her shoes Challenge pledging to raise a minimum of £50.00. We're inviting you to walk a mile in women's shoes whilst listening to our women's stories to help us meet our target.
Statistics from UK Polices forces show that for the first seven weeks of lockdown there was a domestic abuse 999 call every 30 seconds.
We have seen an increase in women needing the services and refuge that WAITS provide due to an abusive relationship or home life. Some women made homeless as an alternative to living in fear and danger.
One such story is about a young woman who reached out to WAITS after seeing a social media campaign. We built a relationship with her over a few days and she eventually had the confidence to share her fear of being forced into marriage and about the financial abuse she was being subjected to by her parents. Concerned, we called the police who brought her to a place of safety. Unfortunately, as all of out refuges are full we were unable to offer her accommodation and support her on her recovery journey.
This is why we need to raise funds in order to open another refuge so that we can help more women like those that we already support.
Be inventive walk around your garden, walk around your workplace or office , up and down your street where-ever, however you walk film it and take pictures and share on social media, either by tagging WAITS into your posts (also use #WAITSHeelsChallenge) or send the "proof" to us so we can share to rachael@isel.biz
We look forward to seeing you all take part! Thank you!!!
Please note: Challenges must be completed by 23rd October 2020
