Story
Every summer, the University of Edinburgh send up to six students to Lusaka, Zambia with the aim of making a difference to the lives of young Zambian people by empowering and enriching communities, through the power of sport, leadership and education.
Whilst in Zambia, students provide coaching expertise within local communities in three key sports - basketball, football and netball. This include delivering, mentoring of young Zambians and providing support with regards to life skills. Students work alongside the Zambian NGO Sport in Action to maximise impact. The initiative focuses on the positive impact that sport can have upon impoverished communities; helping to improve the quality of lives and deliver key health messages.
The Volunteer Zambia (https://volunteer-zambia.com) project actively takes place over a four month (start of June to end of October) period with each student spending six weeks in Lusaka as part of one of three groups of students.
