Volunteers helping bring communities together
Across the UK, our inspirational volunteers are on a mission to help people stay connected, healthy and active through the COVID-19 crisis. We're bringing people together in response to this crisis. And we have rapidly changed the way we work to keep everyone safe.
The tenacity of our volunteers is irreplaceable. Alongside the support they can still safely deliver, we have introduced more technology and fresh approaches that are creating significant impact in communities across the UK.
Since March, over 3,200 volunteers have helped more than 15,000 people across the country. Mentors have supported care leavers; befrienders have connected online with children struggling with home learning; telephone befrienders have forged a lifeline to older people who are alone; and young people have created activity packs for children. Volunteers have also run sing-a-longs, quizzes, and virtual tours online. Thousands have delivered shopping and prescriptions, fixed taps, created wellbeing websites and welcomed commuters as they started to use public transport.
The incredible work our volunteers do, and their time, skills and energy, have never been more essential. Together we are helping communities across the UK survive this global crisis.
I would be doing a whole lot of nothing otherwise. The activities are an escape, and they take my mind off other things.
We face a long, hard road ahead to recover from the devastating effects this crisis has had on the most vulnerable in society. In order to keep these vital services running and help those who need it most, we need to raise more funds.
Donate today, so that more volunteers can reach out and support even more people who need help.
I spoke to one lady yesterday and she is over the moon with her befriender. the positivity was radiating down the phone. She said we had filled her with so much positivity
Every donation we receive will help us to safely recruit, train, and support even more volunteers who will reach out to thousands of people and families who need help right now.
£10 will help us to get food and medicine to someone self-isolating.
