Story
This will help ensure The Myton Hospices can continue to provide its services free of charge to people with a terminal or life limiting illness, and their families, when they need us most.
This year we have to raise £9.2 million of the £12 million we need, we cant do it without support from people like you.
The money raised will enable Myton to help more people like the Melen family:
In November 2018, our mum Sue had the devastating diagnosis of terminal cancer and was given just 3-6 months. After much consideration, she took the brave decision to turn down chemotherapy in favour of living life to the full for however long she had left. She reflected on the things she wanted to achieve and created a bucket list of goals known as the 'Pink Fizz' list as every time she ticked something off she would celebrate with a glass of pink bubbles.
In June 2019, for her final few weeks, she was admitted to Warwick Myton Hospice and she loved it there. It was peaceful, close to home, with beautiful gardens and fantastic supportive staff.
In her last days, we were able to stay in the relatives accommodation; we cant explain how invaluable this was.
We saw the Cycle Challenge advertised and knew we had to do it for her. The 100km route passed very nearby to the natural burial ground at Tysoe, and we were able to pop in to visit her partway through the challenge, before raising a glass of pink fizz on the finish line back at Myton.
Losing our Mum has been the most devastating loss of all our lives but Myton made her final weeks as comfortable and special as they could have been, and we take comfort in knowing that through our fundraising we can help other families in this difficult time. We raised nearly £5,500 by completing the 2019 Cycle Challenge.
To reach our target of £50,000 we rely entirely on you raising sponsorship. Have a look at the difference the money you raise will make:
£50 covers the cost of two hours specialist nursing care
£175 is the upkeep cost of our relatives accommodation for a week
£460 will fund an inpatient bed for one day
£2,000 would buy a patient specific recliner chair to enable patients to spend time out of bed
