Story
North Carolina is home to more than 736,000 veterans, approximately 10 percent of the states total population. Veterans are a historically underserved population, with many suffering from untreated conditions that can contribute to homelessness, including mental and physical infirmities, substance use disorders, and the frailties of age and disability. As a result, an estimated 800 veterans are homeless on any given night of the year in North Carolina.
