In recent months, we have rescued an unprecedented number of donkeys from the continent. Due to this, and all the dear friends we have lost over the past six months, we have had more vet, farrier and equine dentist costs than ever before. Only three months into the year and we have almost depleted our budget for veterinary care, so we really need your help...

It can easily cost over £3,000 for the rescue of one donkey or horse (including transport, vet check-up, health screening, x-rays, farrier work and dental treatment) but this does not include their ongoing veterinary care, which is often extensive due to the poor condition in which many of them arrive.

This year, Toby, our first foal born at the sanctuary, has needed urgent and extensive medical investigations, including an unexpected visit to the veterinary hospital. The cost of his investigative treatments alone amounts to around £3,000. He has been found to suffer from acute asthma, as does another of our resident donkeys, which requires ongoing steroid treatment costing an extra £3,600 each year.

The TLC care for our aged residents also only increases over time with extra vet care, medications and healthcare supplements. In just the past month, we have had vet call-outs for vaccinations, microchipping, check-ups, x-rays and medications meaning we are now looking at yet another huge monthly bill of around £4,000.

This is in addition to the cost of feeding the donkeys and horses at our sanctuary which, due to their specialised equine diet and a substantial rise in food costs, now exceeds £60,000 per year.

We have already nearly depleted this year's veterinary care budget, so we urgently need to raise more funds to help cover the costs of our vet bills... Please can you help us?
