Activity is for everyone at Bristol.
Back in May 2019, the University of Bristol partnered with UWE and the Great Run Company to take part with the local community in the Simplyhealth Bristol 10K. After the overwhelming success of the event, we're uniting once again to bring Bristol students, staff and alumni discounted entry to the Simplyhealth Great Bristol Half Marathon. To sign up and receive an activity package which includes social running groups and training plans for all abilities, click here.
Some 10K runners chose to combine their training with fundraising for the University of Bristol's Healthy Minds programme, raising a fantastic £2,333.25 - thank you to all who took part. We're pleased to invite our half marathon runners to continue supporting this important cause.
Physical activity has been proven to boost mood and reduce feelings of anxiety, stress and depression. This idea is at the heart of Healthy Minds, a physical activity intervention at the University that taps into the benefits of exercise to support Bristol students affected by mental ill health. The programme encourages students to become and remain active, supporting them to find an activity they enjoy and learn to proactively manage their mental and physical health in the long term.
Different tiers of support are available to ensure that each student gets whats right for them, the core offering being a three-month monitored and mentored activity programme with personalised support and access to a range of sporting facilities and opportunities. The programme has yielded clinically significant improvements in wellbeing and supported hundreds of students since it was launched in 2016, including Bethany and Isaac.
If you'd like to get involved and have signed up to the half marathon, click 'Start Fundraising' to set up your fundraising page and start collecting donations. If you'd like to make a donation on behalf of all of our runners, please click 'donate' at the top of this page.
Thank you for your support and good luck to all running the Great Bristol Half Marathon!
