Story
UWL's Student Association created the Women of Color scholarship in 2017, with the hopes to build an endowment fund of 45,000 dollars so that the scholarship can be around forever. This is one of the first student run scholarships here at UWL, and we are more than happy that it is going to such an important cause.
Scholarship opportunities are essential to relieve students of monetary stress, and encourages women of color to stay in higher education. Our Student Government recognizes that women of color face unique barriers in higher education, that others do not. With that being said, we are hoping to build a more equitable campus, so women of color can continue to pursue higher education.
During the 2019-2020 school year, we were not able to pursue our in-person fundraising event due to complications with COVID-19, luckily this year, we can fundraise in a way that is safe for everyone. Even if we go over our fundraising goal, all the money goes to the scholarship itself.
Please feel free to follow us and keep up with our content on our social media, where we will include facts that explain why this scholarship is so significant and where we will showcase amazing and influential women of color throughout history. Our Instagram is @uwlstudentassociation and our Facebook @UWL Student Association.
We would again, like to thank any donors who are able to support our cause. Donors' contributions will help us build a more equitable place, and will help us eliminate obstacles such as debt, that many women of color students face.
