Visit the charity's profileOur teams on the ground are striving to support this country in crisis, providing essential relief and livelihood support. Islamic Relief has been working with communities in Yemen since 1998, implementing seasonal Ramadan and Qurbani food distributions, responding to ongoing emergencies and when possible delivering long-term development programmes.
With ongoing violence and conflict, a staggering 21 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance. That’s around two-thirds of the population. Increasing numbers of people– over 3.6 million people in fact – have been left displaced, building pressure on areas with already scarce resources.
Less than half of the country’s health facilities function and communities are worried about how they’ll survive one day to the next.
Many families in Yemen are struggling to survive after years of conflict, drought and a lack of access to safe water and food.
Food items vary from country to country depending on the local diet; however, each pack typically contains staple foods such as rice, wheat, lentils and oil. Other key items include sugar, canned fish and dates. Measured quantities of food items are packeted and usually weigh on average approximately 27kg. Where malnutrition and food insecurity are prevalent, we aim to increase the amount of food in these packages to ensure that they contain enough food of sufficient nutritional value.
