Story
An appeal in aid of Ukrainians fleeing the war which began on February 24, 2022. The U.K. is the only country in Europe that hasn't waived visa restrictions . 200K people registered to house Ukrainian refugees only to be told the Govt wont match them. We are currently assisting over 1,400 Ukrainian families, young people and minors living in war zones or in neighbouring countries to leave safely. This number is growing daily. We are advising about safe routes out of Ukraine and to the UK and Ireland, facilitating flights and hosts and resettlement advice once here.
Over 5M people have escaped Ukraine since the war began.
According to the UN, as many 5 million people have fled Ukraine. With the number of civilian deaths growing, people are fleeing for their lives. On the border with Ukraine, Poland has received over 1.7 million refugees, Romania has taken over 400K, Moldova, one of the poorest countries in Europe, has accepted over 330,000 refugees (March 15 - UNHCR). in contrast, only 25,000 Ukrainians have been granted visas by the UK.
The U.K. remains the only country in Europe or Scandinavia not to lift visa restrictions in this refugee crisis. Now, more than ever, is the time to strengthen, not weaken, our commitment to the UN convention on refugees, and ensure that we provide protection to those who have lost everything.
