The people of Ukraine have endured a year living in fear of air strikes and missiles; a year of dreadful uncertainty about their and their loved ones safety; a year of terrible deprivation as the economic impact of the conflict has intensified. Now, 12 months after the war began on 24 February 2022, winter is here. All of the countrys thermal and hydroelectric power plants have been damaged, and people are struggling to survive in unheated and bomb-damaged homes.
