We are a small charity based in Lancashire. We provide a specialist mental health counselling service to the autistic community. We are not a commissioned service, ie we don't receive any funding from the Local Authorities or the NHS, and we rely solely on our own fundraising and donations to support the service.
Autistic people are much more likely to suffer mental health difficulties than the rest of the population, but mainstream mental health services lack the knowledge, experience and expertise to effectively help autistic people. This is why a service like ours is so vital.
Here are a couple of examples of what autistic people think about our service:
"A short statement doesn't really cover how my life has changed. I no longer feel lost, isolated, ignored, misunderstood. Jeni is helping me navigate my autism and other mental health issues. I can say without doubt that UANW and Jeni have saved my life, as I doubt I would still be here without her help, understanding, support and care. They deserve so much praise."
"I feel like I've been given another chance at life."
"I've waited my whole life to be helped and understood, as my CPTSD started immediately in my life - I've only known I was on the spectrum for the last 4 years - so specialised help is and was urgently required - I'm very lucky to have met and been helped by Rachel"
