There are things that just go together. Peanut butter and jelly. Milk and cookies. Peas, carrots. It's hard to imagine life without those perfect combinations.
That's why a scholarship fund to honor Janet Robinson Tyson makes perfect sense. Mrs. Tyson has spent her entire life in Union County, and decades making our home county a better place through education.
Mrs. Tyson taught English at Sun Valley High School, later leading the department while constantly earning the highest praise of "my favorite teacher ever" from a generation of students. She moved on to administration, working as assistant principal, then principal at Sun Valley.
When she retired from education, she studied to join the Presbyterian clergy and served churches across Union County. She settled in as an associate pastor at First Presbyterian Church in downtown Monroe.
Thank you for your support of this effort to honor someone who has dedicated her life in service. Mrs. Tyson retires from the clergy officially in August 2021, when we intend to surprise her with the news of this fund.
We are also grateful for the help of Amy Sperry and the Union County Education Foundation for hosting this fund and their work to support Union County Public Schools.
