Tyler Dees Captain's License Memorial Scholarship

The Tyler Dees Captain's License Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Tyler David Dees. This scholarship will help future mariner students who are seeking the training to obtain their U.S. Coast Guard Operator's License.

Story

The Tyler Dees Captain's License Memorial Scholarship was established by family in memory of Tyler. Tyler was a student at Carteret Community College enrolled in this program.

A native Carteret County resident Tyler grew up playing travel soccer then found a strong interest in trucks and fishing. He elevated his fishing to a tournament level and loved spending time on the water with friends and family. Later he would leverage those experiences to make custom fishing lures.

Tyler was a kind, witty and gentle soul and loved by many. A soft soul gone too soon.

This annual scholarship will help future mariner students reach their educational goals and successfully complete the Captain's License Program. This program provides training to mariners seeking their U.S. Coast Guard Operator's License as Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels (OUPV) upon Great Lakes, Inland and/or Near Coastal waters as specified in 46 CFR Part 10. The course prepares students for the USCG examination given at Carteret Community College or a USCG Regional Examination Center (REC).
