Story
The loss of a child is something no parent should have to face and coping with such an unbearable loss is bewildering and traumatic. Twins Trust runs a Bereavement Support Group (BSG) to help families cope with the loss of one or more of their multiples. While other charities offer bereavement support we are the only one in the UK here specifically for multiple birth families.
We are proud to collaborate with eight other baby/bereavement charities (Anam Cara Fasgadh, Bliss, Child Bereavement UK, Held in our Hearts, The Lullaby Trust, Sands, STAR for Harris, Tommy's) to put on a special fundraising challenge on 3 July 2022 - to ascend more than 1,000 metres to reach Wales highest peak on a day-time trek.
'Big Steps for Small Feet' is a chance for our charities to unite as one, in togetherness and hope, raising awareness for a cause that is close to each and every one of us. It's an opportunity to show the world that collectively we can make a difference.
The instigator and inspiration behind this event is Mike McGuire, co-founder of Anam Cara Fasgadh, a Scottish bereavement charity. His only son, Kyle, was stillborn a decade ago and Michael has dedicated his time raising funds and awareness for various charities.
"Losing a child is an unimaginable pain. A time where you can feel very alone in a big world. We will walk together and talk together, no mountain too tall. Last year we conquered Ben Nevis as one. Unity, togetherness and an unbreakable spirit in the memory of our children. In July 2022 we return once more as a team. Working together for the same goals. We may not be able to stop the downpour, but we will all walk with you in the rain."
