Story

12 Days of Independence is Headway Sussex’s Christmas campaign, celebrating the journey towards greater independence for individuals living with brain injuries.

Over 12 days, we’ll invite our community to support us by donating towards specific items or services that directly help our clients regain their independence. Each day will feature a unique option, such as funding adaptive equipment, cognitive therapy resources, or social activities, showcasing the tangible impact of your contributions.

Join us in bringing hope and joy this Christmas by supporting the campaign, sharing it with others, or attending our special events. Together, we can give the gift of independence this holiday season!

12 Days of Independence Breakdown:

Day 1: Creative Lego kits for focus and problem-solving

Building with Lego encourages fine motor skills, concentration, and cognitive rehabilitation.

Day 2: Boccia Set– Boccia helps improve coordination, focus, and motor skills, while also promoting social interaction and mental stimulation.

Day 3: Golf Equipment

Golf improves balance, coordination, and social interaction, all vital for brain injury recovery.

Day 4: Exciting local outings to stimulate the senses

Getting out into the community encourages mental stimulation, social connection, and emotional well-being.

Day 5: Brain-boosting Wii games for cognitive training

Wii games offer engaging ways to improve memory, reaction time, and problem-solving skills.

Day 6: Mindful Art Therapy Supplies

Providing art supplies for therapeutic painting and drawing sessions improves emotional well-being and supports fine motor skill recovery.

Day 7: Cooking and Nutrition Classes

Local cooking workshops help clients regain independence, learn new skills, and explore healthy eating to support brain health.

Day 8: Yoga and Gentle Exercise Classes

Yoga or chair-based exercise sessions can improve balance, strength, and mindfulness.

Day 9: Memory Training Games

Board games and puzzles are designed to stimulate memory, logical thinking, and teamwork.

Day 10: Cinema Trip

Watching films or live performances engages memory, comprehension, and critical thinking. Following a storyline helps with attention and cognitive processing.

Day 11: Accessible Garden Tools

Purchase adaptive tools for gardening, allowing clients with mobility challenges to enjoy outdoor activities.

Day 12: Digital Skills Workshops

Offer sessions to teach basic computer and smartphone skills, helping clients reconnect with technology and improve daily independence.

Please note: If certain fundraising targets are not met, Headway Sussex will prioritise donations to cover the most essential needs as determined by our clients and their personal journeys towards independence.
