Story
Harvest is a time for giving, thanks and sharing with others who are facing challenging times. It is an important festival for Turning Tides; through the generosity of the community, we can ensure local people experiencing homelessness dont go hungry.
Last year, thanks to the support of schools and churches across the county, over £18,000 was raised, which helped to feed those supported by Turning Tides through the autumn and winter months. This year, as local councils declare a cost-of-living crisis, more people face homelessness and are in need of our services.
By making a financial donation, you enable us to buy essential items and fresh produce according to need, allowing our charity to carefully plan over the months ahead to feed people coming to us for support. We will be able to provide healthy and nutritious meals which improve health and immunity critical for anyone, but particularly those sleeping rough. Homeless people rarely have opportunities to eat fresh nutritious food, indeed sleeping rough has a huge impact on health people who have experienced homelessness are known to die 30 years sooner than the general population.
£10 could provide essential food items to a person moving into temporary accommodation.
£30 could fund a days breakfast at one of our community hubs feeding those who come to us in desperate need.
£75 could provide a week of emergency food supplies for 7 people sleeping rough.
Last year Turning Tides supported 900 people experiencing homelessness and this number is rising as households face escalating living costs. This is happening at the same time we navigate cuts to established funding streams. Our charity is reliant on and so grateful for community support.
For 30 years, we have supported thousands of people experiencing homelessness across West Sussex. We couldnt have done this without the help of the community. Thank you for playing such a vital role and making a lasting difference to peoples lives. Your invaluable support is crucial in ensuring no one has to face the trauma of homelessness alone.
