Story

Tuesday’s Child has been helping children living under siege in the Gaza strip since August 2007. The Gaza Strip is 26 miles long and 4-6 miles wide.

The call to help children in Gaza came following a first pilgrimage to Medjugorje where Our Lady Queen of Peace first appeared to six little children in June 1981.

Gaza is the most densely child populated place in the world. There are more children living here per square mile than in any other country or state. Children live in already terrible conditions denied basic human rights for life and are trapped between two sealed borders where transfers out of Gaza for life saving medical treatment for children are also often refused.

Many children are malnourished and deeply traumatised from ongoing inhumane and collective punishment by occupying forces. The killing and wounding of children has become a blood sport and international media turns a blind eye to the reality of atrocities and breaches of international humanitarian law.

On 7 October 2023, Israel declared war on Gaza following an escalation of violence in Israel and terrorist attacks by militants tragically claiming many lives and wounding many others including children.

When Israel punishes Gaza, it is a collective punishment of a mostly civilian population and children suffer the most. In July 2024, it was reported that at least 16000 children have been killed and thousands of children are wounded. Many more are trapped under the rubble and reported missing. Children are not militants.

Hospitals report that 70 percent of the injured are women and children. Statistics do not take into account babies who have died in the womb when their mothers have been killed. Hospitals are currently in dire need of fuel to continue and some hospitals have stopped functioning.

Doctors have been killed. Ambulances have also been shelled and paramedics killed. Journalists have also been killed. NGO workers have been killed. The bombs continue to rain down on a strip of land that does not have an airstrip. It is not known how many are buried in the rubble as residential building after building crumbles.

Aid volunteers say that 80 percent of people are homeless. Families are told to evacuate their homes but they have nowhere to flee to as borders are sealed. Food prices in shops have soared and families cannot find enough water. Bakeries have been targeted and bombed. A supermarket after receiving a large delivery of flour and was bombed.

Alarmingly the water supply into Gaza is limited. There is no electricity plunging the strip into complete darkness at night and adding to the terror of little children.

Families seeking shelter in schools are being shelled. In July 2023 schools continue to be bombed including UN schools and the Holy Family School. Illegal white phosphorus is being dropped in civilian areas yet again causing horrific burns. It is not the first time illegal white phosphorus has been dropped on civilians in the Gaza Strip.is using as testing ground for illegal weapons.

This is the fifth war on Gaza and by far the worst. As in each war it is children who are suffering the most.

Thank you for your ongoing support of Tuesday’s Child. This emergency appeal is to provide essentials for children and their families living yet again through a nightmare.

100 percent of donations will go to aid relief.

May the Holy Family of Nazareth who fled from Bethlehem to Egypt via Gaza and returned to Nazareth also via Gaza pray for all children persecuted by modern day Herods on both sides of this brutal conflict.

This appeal gives 100 percent of donations so there is no need to give the donation platform a percentage. There is an option to over ride to zero.

Let us pray and fast for an immediate ceasefire! Our Lady of Medjugorje has said fasting can suspend even wars.

Peace, peace, peace!

Thank you
