Story
Tristan will be walking 26 miles along Marriotts way to raise funds for Norwich-based charity St Martins. Tristan plans to set off on his marathon walk from Norwich to Aylsham before sunrise, with his St Martins support worker Lloyd joining him along the way.
My heart is at Under 1 Roof. I like all the guys there. With the help of St Martins I have come so far. - Tristan
St Martins is a local charity with a mission to prevent homelessness and maximise independent living in our community by offering a hand up to the most vulnerable through housing, support and care, and to enhance compassion in the community through education and advocacy. Tristan volunteers at St Martins in the Donation Station, but he found his determination to fundraise for the charity through his personal experience of using their services. He accesses ten hours of support per week paid for by his council-funded personal budget for social care, but after paying for these services and necessities he finds that there is no money left for fun. The funds raised by the marathon walk will help people like Tristan to afford leisure activities such as swimming or getting a coffee with their support worker.
For me, its about confidence building. Im so stubborn. Once I start something I am determined to finish it. - Tristan.
Living with ADHD and Aspergers, Tristan also wants to inspire people with his condition to believe in their abilities. Famous free-climber Alex Honnold has been Tristans biggest sporting role model, and their shared experience of living with Aspergers has further motivated Tristan towards his goal. Walking became one of Tristans favourite pass-times during his journey with St Martins because it was one of the only free, accessible activities to do with his support worker and he loved being able to get out and experience nature during lockdown.
