Story

This once in a lifetime adventure will allow trekkers to take on the Atlas Mountains of Morocco and summit its highest peak - Mount Toubkal. The funds raised by trekkers will be directed towards the Salvation Army's work with homeless people and the victims of human trafficking.

The Salvation Army meets the immediate needs of people who have to sleep rough or on the streets. A number of our lifehouses offer emergency accommodation on a night-by-night basis to people who have nowhere else to stay. The accommodation is basic but safe and secure and the staff on duty are available to support the individual through the night. In most lifehouses, free meals are provided and the individual is able to keep warm and feel safe for the night. As well as people sleeping on the streets, this may include 'sofa surfers' or people with no recourse to public funds who are running out of options for where they can receive support and offers of help.

A few of our centres offer specialist support with many offering specific education, training and employment programmes, rebuilding lives by equipping the individual with the relevant skills and qualifications to find employment or to gain further external education. These centres are a lifeline where people can address issues around their homelessness and make positive decisions about their future.

In support of the victims of human trafficking, the Salvation Army has developed community based Modern Slavery Hubs which provide survivors of modern slavery with a link to their local community and signposting to the range of available support they may need.

As well as our Modern Slavery Hubs, the Salvation Army's Victim Care Fund provides additional support to survivors of modern slavery. It funds essential items outside of the support they are entitled to through the Government contract and was established to help victims of modern slavery where no other funding is available to meet their immediate needs and to ease their transition to independent living. This might be a deposit for someone to move into their own home, clothing for a job interview, or a bike to get to work.

The funds raise for Trek Toubkal will be used to continue the vital and life-changing work of the Salvation Army in support of the victims of homelessness and human trafficking. You can also support a local Salvation Army project.

We are seeking donations for the benefit of The Salvation Army Social Work Trust, a registered charity number 215174. A percentage of the funds we raise will cover the cost of participating in the trip. The precise amount deducted is dependent on the size of the group as a whole. It is estimated that the amount deducted will be £1000 based on a group size of 30. However, this may reduce if the group is larger, or increase if the group is smaller, but in no circumstances will the amount deducted be more than £1067 .
