Trailwalker is the ultimate team endurance event. The challenge is to walk, jog or run 100km non-stop across the South Downs Way in under 30 hours in a team of four, with a support crew of two members to help you get to the finish line. By taking part or supporting teams who are taking part in Trailwalker 2020, you are also supporting the work of both Oxfam Great Britain and The Gurkha Welfare Trust.
The Gurkha Welfare Trust provide financial, medical and development aid to Gurkha veterans, their families and communities.
Last year they built 13 schools. They also delivered refurbishments to 105 schools. This can be something as simple as the delivery of new desks or books, right up to the building of new toilet blocks. In total, their work on schools last year benefited over 40,000 children.
Oxfam is a global movement of millions of people who share the belief that, in a world rich in resources, poverty isn't inevitable. Whether it is responding to a climate emergency, providing people with clean water and sanitation or campaigning against the laws which keep people in poverty.
Purity (below) drinks water from a tap connected to an Oxfam solar piped water system in Bubi District, Zimbabwe.
This project is empowering women and supporting communities, by installing ten water points and 15 laundry facilities. The project will help to reduce distances women have to travel for clean water, ensure household work is shared equally between men and women, and help women to have more time to do activities outside of household chores.
