Story
This summer 50 giant tortoise sculptures will take over Jersey, leading visitors and islanders alike on a self-guided trail to explore Jerseys wild spaces, costal vistas and urban hang outs.
If you have enjoyed taking part in Tortoise Takeover, please show your love for wildlife by donating to build a Tropical House at Jersey Zoo.
This incredible free art trail is organised by Durrell, a Jersey based global conservation charity, in partnership with Wild in Art.
Durrell has a long history of working with tortoises. Sadly, chelonians, which includes tortoises, turtles and terrapins, are now the most threatened vertebrate group and need help more than ever.
The amphibian and reptile house at Jersey Zoo is home to some of the most endangered species that Durrell works with, but it is in urgent need of improved and more sustainable facilities. Together, we can raise funds to a build a new Tropical House at Jersey Zoo team to continue the exemplary care for these precious species.
