The George and Julia Brumley Family Nature Preserve opened in April, 2017. It is located in eastern Orange County, approximately 15 minutes from Durham and Chapel Hill. Today, more than 4,000 people enjoy 15 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails each month.
TLC conserved the 60-acre Brumley East expansion in April 2019 to protect the other side of a tributary of Stony Creek, to provide additional connectivity for wildlife, and to expand recreational opportunities for the public. It is exactly the kind of project identified as a priority in TLC's 2018 Strategic Action Plan .
Brumley Preserve is one of TLCs most popular preserves and one of two that offers multi-use trails specially designed for mountain biking and walking. We have begun working on a new multi-use trail and a hiking only trail, bridges to connect these new trails with the existing Brumley South trail system, and a new entrance/parking lot off University Station Road. Your support today will fund the entrance/parking lot, final trail building, and signage. Brumley North, South, and East, are critical components of the 25-mile open space corridor that extends from Jordan Lake to Eno River State Park. Streams from Brumley feed into the Eno River and ultimately into Falls Lake the drinking water source for Raleigh. Conserving land around streams and rivers protects water quality and is an affordable way to prevent further declines in water quality. Please show your appreciation for open space, public trail systems, and conservation by donating today and your gift will be matched by the Concannon Family, doubling your impact!
""One of our favorite places to spend a few hours is in Duke Forest near the Brumley nature preserve. It's wonderful that TLC, Duke, and other conservation organizations work hard to set aside land so close to the City of Durham and allow access for people to enjoy these natural habitats. We feel it's now our time to pay it forward and are happy to join with the TLC and conserve additional natural space in Orange County for present and future generations."
