We've outgrown our building. Right now dozens are waiting for a space on each retreat, and many more would come if they were able. We are fundraising for a bigger retreat centre with a bigger team, helping women join the Order for many years to come
In 1967 Bhante made Buddhist history by giving women and men equal ordination. But 25 years and 352 ordinations later, only 70 women had been ordained. So a team of dharmacharinis embarked on creating a retreat centre dedicated to womens ordination training. Tiratanaloka was born: the first centre of its kind in Europe. Now the number of dharmacharinis has increased more than tenfold. Most of them trained at Tiratanaloka.
But we've outgrown the building. Right now dozens are waiting for a space on each retreat, and with over 1000 on our database, many more would come if we could host them.
We need a bigger team too. At the moment the Ordination Team does everything from clearing drains to ordaining people!
We want a bigger retreat centre so that we can run retreats for at least 60 people and house a community of 12.
Imagine not being limited to only booking for one retreat but being free to follow your own inspiration.
Imagine not having to undergo the uncertainty of the waiting list but being able to plan your Dharma calendar, or book spontaneously.

It's all about friendship: helping women in their journey towards ordination into the Triratna Buddhist Order. We are a Buddhist community living together, running retreats and supporting each individual in the deepening of their Buddhist practice.
