Story
PKD Charity is a UK organisation and is dedicated to supporting individuals and families who are effected by PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease).
There is currently no cure for this inherited disease and it is thought that approximately 70,000 people in the UK suffer with the condition.
For those diagnosed with PKD, the disease often progresses slowly and may not cause symptoms initially. However, as the cysts grow and multiply, they can lead to several complications such as high blood pressure, kidney stones, urinary tract infections, and ultimately kidney failure.
The devastating effects extend beyond the physical symptoms. Families and individuals affected by PKD often face emotional stress, financial burdens (due to the costs of treatment and care), and lifestyle changes to manage the disease's progression. Moreover, PKD is a hereditary condition, meaning affected individuals have a 50% chance of passing the gene mutation to their children, further impacting family dynamics and future generations.
The main goal of PKD Charity is to provide support, resources, and advocate for research to better understand and manage this challenging disease and we couldn't do it without amazing people like you supporting our cause.
