Story
Many of the homeless people we help only have the clothes on their backs, with few to no other possessions. They are often freezing and haven't eaten for days. We give them clothing, toiletries, hot food and drinks as well as food parcels for their next meal.
Our food bank users don't have the confidence that their cupboards will be full. We give them the hope and security of knowing that their next family meal is there.
Many of those recently housed are left alone with an empty shell and no possessions. We give them the necessities to make their house into a home, giving them the best chance at a new start.
Our service users rely on us - if we do not provide our services there is little other support of this kind available...
OUTREACH STREET TEAMS
We currently run a twice-weekly Outreach Street Team which provides hot food, warm clothes and haircuts (and even dog food & treats!). We are now underway with a morning Street Team to help our most vulnerable service users during the winter months. Our teams also provide a respectful listening ear and act as a signposting service for a variety of support from local community partnerships.
Our purpose is to break down stigma and build relationships.
Food Bank
Our Street Teams are always busy and we are seeing an ever increasing number or those in need of our help. This year has also been especially hard for many households in and around Glasgow and as a result we have seen a dramatic increase in those in need of our non-referral Food Bank. We deliver up to 70 community and emergency food parcels every week. Thanks to the support we receive we are able to ensure that our food parcels include the essentials needed as well as fresh fruit and vegetables to promote healthy living.
I don't know what I would do without your charity, this is the first I've eaten in 2 days.. - service user
'Houses2homes'
Our 'houses2homes' initiative helps those recently housed with household essentials and white goods, getting people steadily back on their feet faster. We have provided beds, linen, chairs, tables and white goods to those who have nothing, turning their empty allocated housing into a real place that they can call home.
The flat I was in had nothing in it...Within days Chris has contacted me to see what I needed and gave me a toaster, kettle, bedroom and living room furniture and a load of food and toiletries. - service user
