A new facility to help rehabilitate and treat tortoises in memory of Sabine Böhmer. Sabine was a dedicated and much loved member of the Norfolk Tortoise Club team. She acquired her first pet tortoise at six years old and had an unwavering passion for chelonian care, conservation and welfare.

Norfolk Tortoise Club has offered education and advice in tortoise welfare for over twenty years. We help tortoise owners, zoos, vets, the pet trade and other tortoise-related organisations.

The widespread availability and extremely long life of tortoises means there's a constant need to find animals new homes. The club rehomes over 150 animals each year. Many require medical care and rehabilitation before they're ready to be sent to their new owners.

Thanks to the Chapman Small Animal Trust we have constructed a new building to offer the medical care the animals require. We also use it to run educational workshops for tortoise owners, the pet trade, vets and zookeepers.

We now need help to kit it out with much-needed equipment such as heating, UV lights, tortoise enclosures, a hot water system, scientific apparatus and medical supplies. We also need to build new covered space to increase our capacity and capabilities, improve our biosecurity and give our team of volunteers somewhere to work in bad weather.
